CBSE Class 10: Study Plan & How to Score 90%+
A practical, subject-wise plan for CBSE Class 10 — how to use NCERT, when to start revision, and the habits that actually push a student past 90%.

Scoring 90%+ in CBSE Class 10 is less about talent and more about method: knowing NCERT thoroughly, practising writing, and revising on a schedule. Here is a plan that works for most students.
Build everything on NCERT first
CBSE board questions are built around the NCERT textbooks. Before touching any reference book, make sure you can comfortably answer every in-text and back-exercise question in NCERT. For most students, NCERT mastery alone is worth the bulk of the marks.
Subject-wise approach
- Mathematics: practice daily; understand, do not memorise. Keep a formula sheet and redo mistakes.
- Science: NCERT line by line; diagrams, definitions and derivations; write answers, do not just read.
- Social Science: make short notes and timelines; it is scoring if you present answers in points.
- Languages: practise the writing section (letters, essays) and read prescribed texts actively.
The revision rhythm
- Daily: revise what was taught in school that day — same evening, briefly.
- Weekly: a quick review of the week plus one chapter re-read from an older topic.
- Monthly: solve one sample paper per major subject under timed conditions.
- Last 2 months: full previous-year and sample papers, writing complete answers to time.
Write, do not just read
Board exams test written answers. Students who practise writing full answers to time consistently outscore those who only read, even when both understand the concept equally.
A sample daily routine (school-going)
After school and a proper break, aim for about 2.5–3 focused hours: one hour of Maths practice, one hour on Science/Social, and 30–45 minutes revising an older topic. Keep weekends for sample papers and catching up. Sleep and breaks are part of the plan, not a reward for finishing it.
Exam-day basics
- Use the 15-minute reading time to plan which questions to attempt first.
- Attempt what you know best first to bank marks and build confidence.
- Present neatly, underline keywords, and draw labelled diagrams where relevant.
Frequently asked questions
Is NCERT enough to score 90% in CBSE Class 10?+
For most students, thorough NCERT mastery plus sample-paper practice is enough to cross 90%. Reference books help for extra practice but are not a substitute for NCERT.
When should I start Class 10 board preparation?+
Start consistent study from the beginning of the academic year with daily revision. Serious sample-paper practice should begin about two months before the board exams.
How many hours should a Class 10 student study daily?+
Around 2.5–3 focused hours after school, plus brief same-day revision, is enough if sustained. Quality and consistency matter more than long, tired hours.
How can I improve my board exam writing?+
Practise writing full answers to time, present in points, underline keywords and include labelled diagrams. Solve previous-year and sample papers by actually writing, not just reading.
